Drainage
The Township of South Dundas has several resources that require high quality drainage management. Part of the Township is in the South Nation River Conservation Authority catchment's area, some of the creeks and rivers drain into the St. Lawrence River thus impacting the fish and wildlife habitat of the river, and there are vast tracts of prime agricultural area requiring drainage.
The Township administers the provincial Tile Drainage program that lends funds to farming operations to install tile drainage. It also administers the Municipal Drain program that designs, engineers, constructs and maintains municipal drains through private and public lands. This program has provided loans to the affected parties (excludes municipal lands). In both cases, the Township collects loan payments and submits these funds back to the province.
Another key area of drainage is fish and wildlife habitat protection along the watercourses. The Township ensures proper measures are taken to protect these resources, such as silk screening, minimal or no disturbance of the watercourse, and proper elevations and design of drainage facilities.
