Emergency Management Services
The Township is well advanced in emergency management. The Township came into existence just days before the start of Ice Storm ’98 which reinforced the value of an effective community emergency management program. The Township has been active in emergency management since its inception in 1998.
The Township meets the emergency management program requirements under the province’s Emergency Management & Civil Protection Act and its standards under Regulation 380/4.
The Township’s emergency management program is based on a hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA) process. Priorities have been set based on the results of the HIRA process. The priority risks selected by the Township’s emergency management program committee are:
- Road & Rail Transportation Accidents
- Human Health Emergencies and Epidemics
- Industrial Fires
- Agricultural Emergencies
An approved emergency response plan exists, and a copy is available at the Township Office for viewing by the public. Training for the Township’s emergency managers is held annually. The emergency response plan is tested annually with exercises. Each year, all components of the community emergency management program are verified by Emergency Management Ontario field officers.
Township residents can assist emergency personnel in South Dundas by developing a family emergency plan. A basic part of a family plan is a three day emergency kit to provide the family’s basic needs under emergency conditions whether at home or at an emergency shelter if evacuation is required.
