Land-Use Planning
The Township still uses the four Official Plans from its former pre-amalgamation municipalities. At the present time, the Counties are working on a Counties-wide Official Plan that would include the geographical area of South Dundas. Once it is in place, the Township will use this new plan as its policy for all land-use decisions.
Similar to the Official Plans, the Township continues to use the former municipal zoning by-laws. Once the new Official Plan is adopted, the Township plans to do a comprehensive zoning by-law that would apply to the entire Township and be consistent.
Apart from Official Plans and zoning by-laws, the Township uses site plan controls for industrial, commercial and multi-residential development, and decides on minor variances or special permission pursuant to its zoning by-laws. The Counties is responsible for land subdivision and condominium development approvals.
