Water and Sewer Services
The Villages of Morrisburg and Iroquois have municipally piped water and sewer services. The Village of Williamsburg has a municipally piped sewer service.
The water source for the Villages is the St. Lawrence River. Each Village has its own sewage treatment facility and is serviced by a regional water treatment plant.
The residents, businesses and industries in Morrisburg and Iroquois pay based on usage (metered) for water and an equal charge for sewer service. The Village of Williamsburg residents and businesses pay a flat fee (varies on type of business, number of residential units, etc.)
Water
The Township of South Dundas has a regional water treatment facility to service both Morrisburg and Iroquois. It is designed to provide capacity for a twenty year period. Water is piped from Morrisburg to Iroquois and the two former water stations were converted to pumping stations. There is a reservoir in Iroquois and a water feeder line from the St. Lawrence River to the water treatment plant. There are water meters installed in all residences, businesses, industries connected to the water system.
The regional water treatment facility is a state of the art facility using a membrane filtration system. It also has granular activated carbon contactors to eliminate any odour and taste. Our water meets all provincial requirements under the provincial water legislation.
The water distribution system in the Villages varies in terms of state of condition. Each year the Township plans upgrades to the distribution system, subject to available funding. The Township has developed a long term plan that will include an analysis of the existing system and planned action to maintain, repair and replace the pipes and appurtenances.

Sewage
The two Village sewage treatment facilities are primary plants and currently do not meet provincial standards. They are almost at design capacity. The Township has completed an Environmental Assessment and Study Report on its sewage treatment facilities.
In 2006, the Canada Ontario Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (COMRIF) provided the Township of South Dundas with $13,301,520 in funding to upgrade the Morrisburg Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The total project cost is estimated at $14,780,000.00 based on a construction start date of June 2007.
The Thompson Rosemount Group and SAI Engineering are working in conjunction with the Township to ensure the project stays on budget and on schedule.
Unfortunately, at this time there is no plan to upgrade the WWTP in Iroquois.
The Williamsburg sewage treatment facility is a lagoon system and is very effective. There is sufficient capacity and the system is in excellent condition.
There are few storm sewers in the Villages; rather the Villages have been designed mostly with shallow ditches and swales in the street allowances to drain surface water.
