South Dundas lowers flags to half mast in recognition of James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon tragedy

South Dundas Municipal Centre flag flying half mast

On Sunday, the tragic news from Saskatchewan reached across our Country. There are no words to do justice to the pain that this abhorrent violence has caused. It is with heavy hearts that we wait for news about the recovery of those injured and our deepest condolences rest with the families of those who were slain.

This tragedy once again reminds us of the need to heal the wounds in our history and move forward with a future of respect and togetherness across our nation.

As a symbol of our support to the families affected, South Dundas has lowered our flags to half-mast. Our hearts are with the people of the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon.

Steven Byvelds, Mayor
Municipality of South Dundas
