Emard Brothers Makes Major Donation to Community Train Preservation Project

South Dundas: Emard Brothers Lumber is making a major donation to the current preservation project underway at the antique train site near Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg—all material required to repair the exterior of the vintage passenger train car that is part of the historic display.

“The car has pretty significant damage,” says Chris Emard of Emard Brothers Lumber. “You don’t realize the extent as you're driving by at 80 kmh. We felt we could do something to help with this worthwhile project.”

The donation will be tongue & groove pine, screws and stain—Emard’s Creekside pine and Olympic stain that will closely match the original exterior to maintain its historic value.

The Friends of Grand Trunk Railway 1008 (FGTR 1008) is the community-based committee leading the preservation project with the train.

“The Friends of GTR1008 is excited and grateful for this monumental contribution from Emard Lumber to help refurbish this century old landmark,” says Friends President Jim Becksted. “It's a wonderful opportunity for the community business to step forward and collaborate with our volunteer group to maintain this for future generations to enjoy and learn from.”

The official kickoff for this stage of the project will take place on Saturday, May 31, at the train site beside Crysler Marina at 10:30 am. Jason Bertand, manager of the Emard Morrisburg store will attend along with the Friends committee. The train site will be open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm for a committee “work day” and community visits.

Emard Bros. Lumber was established in 1925 and celebrates its centennial this year.
