The Municipality of South Dundas is pleased to announce that JC Whitteker Park will undergo a significant modernization, thanks to a $168,600 investment from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), announced by MPP Nolan Quinn.
JC Whitteker Park is a vital community hub in South Dundas, serving the diverse needs of local and neighbouring communities. The park promotes year-round active living and gives residents a place to build stronger connections and a deeper sense of belonging. However, decades of heavy use — with no documented maintenance history — have left the outdoor asphalt surface in significant disrepair.
This funding will support a comprehensive modernization of the facility, including:
- Full replacement of the aging asphalt surface
- Repairs to the surrounding fencing
- Installation of new, professional-grade hockey boards
- Specialized resurfacing to accommodate multiple sports and activities
Once complete, the revitalized space will serve as a premier multi-use court, supporting pickleball, basketball, ball hockey, and, in the winter months, figure skating and ice hockey — meeting the growing demand for accessible, year-round recreation in the community.
While JC Whitteker Park recently benefited from the addition of an accessible swing set, the asphalt playing surface has not been upgraded in decades and is in urgent need of replacement. This revitalization will ensure residents continue to have access to a free, safe, and high-quality outdoor recreation space that welcomes every generation.
The park is also home to the Williamsburg Recreation Centre, which houses the local library and canteen. By upgrading the outdoor courts, the Municipality expects to see increased traffic throughout the Recreation Centre, creating an inclusive destination where residents can move seamlessly between physical activity and social or educational engagement — all in one location.
